Questions

Stream of consciousness blogging…

Have you ever noticed that in all the house/garden type magazines – no-one has a television?

If one goes to a fashion designer's birthday party – does one HAVE to wear the designer's creations? The odds of wearing the same ensemble as someone else are high. Would it be rude to turn up wearing Tamsin Cooper? Or an organic wool aran jumper?

Three-cheese tortellini at Cin-Cin is fabulous, delightful mounds of creamy loveliness on a fork – but what’s up here? This used to be a fairly decent place to strap on a nose-bag, but the view of the grubby 'smoker's tables' outside is reminiscent of some horrid westie bar. Cin Cin's ambience is getting dangerously close to AC/DC on a jukebox and chips in a basket.

Speaking of chips – why does the "fine dining" French Cafe have chips (sorry - french fries) as a side dish? What is your chef, like 8? (P.S. Dear Engine Room – I had been going to book dinner with you, but your website was so repugnantly impossible to read, I gave up.)

Note to all – don't ever say in public, "Mortgagee sales are a really great way to pick up some bargains." People look at you with stabby-eyes of hate if one does. Really very rude of them. Not my fault their mortgages are creaking at the seams.

What's the fuss about Havianas? Aren’t they just $50 jandals?

Anyone else going to the polo on Sunday?

"Would it be rude to turn up wearing Tamsin Cooper?"

Probably, but I have to say she'd look quite good on me.

Yeah that tv thing pisses me off. But you just know that these people put half their house into storage for the duration of the photo shoot heh

And yes, Havaianas suck imo, because they are just expensive jandals.

If you go to a NZ designer's party, wear someone like Tom Ford or Roberto Cavalli just to remind them that while they might be popular here, they'll never truly make it in the fashion world...

"no one has a television"

They are hidden in cabinetry. Re the menu of the Engine Room, it reminds me of the dipshits who spend money putting their company name and phone number on their work vehicles in very trendy and oh-so-small fonts that they are only legible from six inches away.

GET A CLUE.

It doesn't make you look cool, it makes you look like a moron, and who wants to hire a moron, FFS?

Oh, anonymous! Should we both wear big red roses?

Ninildu - good point, and one I have considered - but I see no television-type cabinetry either... I think in magazine-land, people only read. And not tatty Jilly Cooper novels either - only ever high-brow tomes or Booker-prize novelists.

Agree people do seem a bit dim when it comes to promoting their company - I have yet to find a designer website that avoids all sorts of annoying new windows and other flashy add-ons that annoy the shit out of one. Less is more, folks.

Ooh Norrie, you are a cheeky wee Oompa Loompa.

This is precisely the reason I decline all invites to top NZ fashion designer parties. I would turn up in my fab op shop bargains and people would ask me who I'm wearing and other obnoxious questions and I would annoy them by relaying the story of my 60 year old couture and its $2.50 price tag. But, oh, how delish to go to a T Cooper party wearing the other T Cooper. Tee hee.

Agreed, Engine Room menu online is tricky to read, but the food is divine. I was there last week, and although the place is downright pokey, the kai was phenomonal. Goats cheese souffle to die for, although it could've fed 4. Other Chefs (from other reknowned aucks restaurants) were eating there too, which has gotta be a plus. I must do a post on the experience, twas fab, filling food.

I'm now considering Cin-Cin for a meal, what with that brilliant patio recommendation. Westies in Cin-Cin you say, now thats a photo op. Why is Norrie never there when that happens?

Thanks for the recommendation Lita - I promise I will go, despite their website.

I agree on the tortellini is fabulous, and the fact that I am eating there shows the place is letting the riff-raff in.
